| The
Theatre of Dionysus - Roman
Period
The Theatre of Dionysus was remodeled again in the 1st century AD. This time the skene was several storeys high, and very elaborately decorated. The orchestra was probably used for gladiators and for the display and killing of wild animals. A stone barrier was built around it, to protect the spectators. Most what we see today at the theatre of Dionysus are the remains of this last Roman period. Later it was abandoned, and forgotten for many centuries. |
